Packaging and Skidding Equipment:
Cuber Plates

Many industries such as aggregate or concrete manufacturing use skidding equipment (cubers) to help in handling heavy products.

The Problem: Moving concrete blocks onto a skid

The Process:

The block comes down the conveyor.
The block is mechanically pushed onto a hardened steel plate.
The plate is hydraulically raised and slides forward over the skid.
The block is held from sliding back and the plate slides back into position and the block drops onto the skid.

This is a lot of sliding abrasion and it can be costly. Every three years, the company had to replace the steel plate at a cost of $1000.

The Solution

In roughly 30 minutes, a 1.3mm sheet of UHMW was bonded to the steel plate. It not only reduced wear, it provided some noise abatement as well.
