In applications where there is a telescoping process, problems arise from friction and wear which usually requires grease or lubrication to help remedy the situation. By applying a thin gauge UHMW to the sides of the telescoping substrate, friction and abrasion are reduced and the need for lubrication is eliminated. An example of this application is a firetruck ladder. The UHMW (.50" - .060") is laminated to the sides of the aluminum ladder. As the ladder is extended, the UHMW acts as a bearing surface and aids in the sliding and telescoping of the aluminum. Black UHMW with an acylic adhesive was recommended for UV stability and moisture resistance. Many of these types of applications which are found in material handling, agriculture, food processing and transportation can benefit using bondable UHMW.
