Reduce
Pan Jamming
in Bakery Lines
The Problem
JTM, Inc., a large producer of meat products and sandwich items had just
installed a new three million dollar bakery line to produce hoagy buns
for their sandwich lines as well as some of the restaraunts they supply.
As the bread pans conveyed around certain bends in the line, the pans
would jam, thereby shutting down the entire line. This was creating a
problem in getting the line into production.

The
Solution
By lining the system with adhesive backed .060î UHMW tape, the pans
were able to easily glide around the bends smoothly without any sticking
or jamming. The low coefficient of friction and self lubricating properties
of the UHMW reduced drag and wear all down the conveying line, thereby
improving efficiency and reducing down time. When asked how long it took
to install the material, Joe Maas, VP of Production said, ì It
was down in matter of minutesî. If sheet product had been installed
using mechanical fastening, it would have taken a full day or more. When
it comes to replace the material, the UHMW tape can be removed in one
simple step, the substrate recleaned and a new strip installed in a short
efficient process that significantly reduces labor, down time and waste.
And with companies looking to reduce down time in an effort to improve
efficiency and cut costs, UHMW tape is an ideal alternative to the old
fashioned countersink method.
