With ISO 9001:2000 certification, customers have added assurance that they are buying from a qualified manufacturer that gives them what they need, when they need it, every time. Crown Plastics Company achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification on May 20 of this year. The certification will augment the company’s efforts to pursue new applications and markets.
Crown Plastics Company in Harrison, Ohio, manufacturers thin gauge UHMW, (Ultra-High Molecular Weight) Polyethylene. UHMW’s characteristics of high impact resistance combined with low friction gives it applications in a wide range of industries, from automotive to agricultural, sports and recreation.
ISO 9001:2000 is a cross-industry quality management system standard set by the International Standard Organization. It helps organizations achieve standards of quality that are recognized and respected throughout the world. Crown Plastics worked with ISO certification specialists for two years to achieve certification. “You have to have the total commitment of management to go through the rigorous certification process,” says Crown Plastics’ quality manager Tom Bellman.

“ The issues that ISO 9001:2000 certification addresses are the things you want to do anyway if you’re manufacturing a product properly,” Bellman says. “But having the certification helps us assure our customers that they are buying from a qualified supplier with a management system that does what it takes to give them what they need every time.” From taking the order to shipping the product, every step in the manufacturing process is continuously monitored following ISO 9001:2000 standards to assure Crown Plastics’ continuing commitment to quality.
Gary Ellerhorst, chief operating officer, states that this is not an end, but a beginning. “Everyone in the company has invested a tremendous amount of time and energy accomplishing this task. Now, what we do with this certification is critical. Since the primary purpose of the ISO 9001:2000 certification is to improve quality, customer service and company performance, we will use this as a tool to expand business and develop new markets and products.”
Crown Plastics Company supplies UHMW in gauges from .003 inches to .125 inches and in widths from one-quarter inches to 24 inches. Crown’s unique continuous compression molding process allows UHMW to be produced in long continuous coils with tight tolerance and low stress.
Crown also has the distinction of providing all of its gauges in bondable form, supplied with a peel and stick adhesive system, thereby eliminating the need for mechanical fastening, eliminating waste and reducing downtime.
Crown also offers all of its gauges in a conductive form and now offers higher temperature UHMW with a continuous operating range of 275 degrees F. |
