Mail Sorting Conductive Tape Used to Reduce Friction and Static in Mail Sorting Equipment The Problem In mail sorting equipment, letters move at a high rate of speed through a bar coding system which identifies the mail and separates it into individual compartments. Since the volume of mail can be rather high, wear can become an issue. So a low coefficient of friction material that can dissipate the static build up generated by the paper is critical. |
The Solution By using .010*, .030*, .060*, and .125* conductive UHMW tapes, the customer UHMW tapes, the customer was to address all of his issues. The wide variety of available gauges gave them flexibility in their material selection - the gauge was determined by the amount of wear or the space requirements. This reduced waste and application overkill. The low coefficient of friction of the UHMW provided smooth consistent operation with no sticking or jamming while the conductive properties eliminated static build up thereby reducing the possibility of short circuiting computer systems critical to the proper functioning of the entire sorting line.
