EVERTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TIVAR® H.O.T.

Color: White

USDA compliant and meets FDA guidelines 21CFR 178.2010 and 21CFR 177.1520, making it the perfect material to use in higher temperature applications in the baking and other food processing, packaging and distribution industries.

Anti-oxidation additive allows the material to survive for extended periods of time at temperatures up to 275°F (continuous).

The oxidization rate of the material at higher temperatures is gready reduced thereby slowing material degradation and extending wear-life in chemical, elevated temperature and thermo-cycling environments. In many applications, this material will last up to 10 times longer in higher temperature environments and has excellent wear and release characteristics.

Available in sheets and extrusions.

Machines like TIVAR® 1000, and will not dull tooling.

Properties at ambient temperature are the same as TIVAR® 1000.

WHAT HAPPENS TO TIVAR® H.O.T. AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES?

Material softens just like any other UHMW product and is not a high load bearing material at elevated temperatures. Please note: This material could potentially replace nylon in some applications but should not be considered as an overall replacement for Nylon.

Thermal expansion is very similar to standard UHMW materials.

Will not become brittle due to degradation/oxidation (standard UHMW shows signs of advanced oxidation in as little as two weeks, in lab testing at PHS, at 275°F).

Field Test Data

Field-testing is ongoing, but here are some results to date:

1. Conveyor Application

Application: TIVAR® H.O.T. used in 3/8" X 3" wide wear strips used to protect the return side of the conveyor. The conveyor is inside a cleaning tunnel for transformers. As the transformers near completion of manufacture, they go through an acid/steam wash to remove residue. Steel had been used in this area previously, but the customer was trying to reduce noise levels.

Environment:

  • Temperature: 250°F continuous
  • Moisture/Chemical Corrosion: Nozzles spray a mixture of steam sodium hydroxide and sodium methasalicate
  • Load / weight: 30 lbs. sq. ft.
  • Speed (conveyor belt): 3 feet per minute Material in contact: steel slats
  • TIVAR® H.O.T. placed in service in May, 2001 and to date shows no sign of wear.

2. Food Processing Application

Application: H.O.T. sheet utilized in bakery combination oven as wear strip (3/8" thick) under stainless steel chain belt. Replacing standard UHMW

Environment:

  • Temperature 270°F continuous
  • Moisture: steam present
  • Load/ weight: 20 lbs. sq. ft.
  • Speed (conveyor belt): 200 - 250 feet per minute
  • Material in contact: stainless steel chain belt
  • TIVAR® H.O.T. placed in service in November, 2000 and to date shows no sign of wear.

3. Tank Lining Application

Application: Material utilized inside of lime hydration tank. Tank is constructed from standard carbon steel. Customer problem: lime slurry build up and sticking to inside of the tank requiring periodic down time to clean.

Environment:

  • Temperature: 225°F, continuous
  • Moisture: 13% water/lime mixture
  • Chemical/ Corrosion: high ph
  • TIVAR® H.O.T. placed in service in January, 2001 and to date shows no sign of wear.

4. Window Application

Application: Sheet cut into 1/2" x 1" squares and placed on a nylon rod (filler chain) Filler chain becomes a flexible rod and is placed inside PVC window frame. Frame is placed into glycerin bath and placed in fixture. Upon removal from the bath filler chain is resized, if necessary, and reused. Currently using standard UHMW, however longevity is a problem.

Environment:

  • Temperature: 240°F to 260°F cycling to ambient
  • Moisture: hot glycerin / oil bath
  • TIVAR® H.O.T placed in service in January, 2001 and to date shows no sign of wear.

Other field tests ongoing:

TIVAR® H.O.T. - 1" sheet fabricated into drag flights to ride on the transporter belt of the drag conveyor. Replacing Nylon in both applications

Test 1: The conveyor is used for conveying ash from burning rice hulls at rice processing company.

Test 2: Conveying corn from a solventized toaster.

  • Field test recently underway at Aeroglide Corp., H.O.T. was fabricated from extruded board and placed in test bed for drying equipment.
  • Field Test at Cotton Inc. - 1/2 " sheet cut to support return leg of the wire mesh dryer belt. Material to be dried is wet cottonseed. Customer is currently using steel on steel.
  • Other tests to provide further information ongoing. Will update as the above tests and the new test information is more complete.
